electric cigs

The Electronic Cigarette, sometimes called an electric cigarette is becoming a very popular tobacco smoking alternative. An electronic cigarette smoker can still get a dose of nicotine without combustion and without the over 4,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke. One cannot say that electronic cigarettes are a safe alternative to tobacco cigarettes as studies on electronic cigarettes are yet to be done – but the word “on the street” is positive. Instead of hot, harsh smoke, nicotine is delivered in a cooler mist – consisting of mostly water vapor and nicotine. Electronic cigarettes don’t smell! They can be used in most places that ban tobacco cigarettes and they are much cheaper in the long run, than traditional tobacco cigarettes.

While some have claimed that electronic cigarettes have helped them quit smoking, It’s hard for me to see the electronic cigarette as a quit-smoking device. It’s the same problem one has with nicotine gum or patches. How can you get off nicotine with something that contains nicotine? I also am not discouraging anyone from quitting if that’s what they want to do – I recommend going cold turkey, if you can go three days without you can do it – I quit for five years that way – several times. What works for one may not work for another.

So it stands to reason that the electronic cigarette is more for people who enjoy smoking and/or have trouble quitting, but would rather not partake of the other 4,000 chemicals in tobacco or deal with the other problems associated with smoking tobacco.

In their July 23, 2009 (Post Date)”Consumer Update” the FDA is concerned about potential health risk with use of electronic cigarettes.

You can view the complete details here: FDA Warns of Health Risks Posed by E-Cigarettes http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/PublicHealthFocus/ucm172906.htm (copy and paste the link if it’s not clickable for you).

Review the information then decide for yourself. Electronic cigarettes, while not approved for “Nicotine Replacement Therapy” by the FDA, have certainly been reported to be effective by those who have used esmokes or are currently using esmokes.

Here is (quoted in part) information referring to a study done  about the effectiveness of prescription “Nicotine Replacement Therapy”(NRT) from the Pfizer Website. I am only quoting the conclusion, to get all the technical details follow the source link.

Source: (copy and paste the link)

https://www.pfizerpro.com/sites/ppro/pages/professional_education/nicotrol_inhaler_nicotine_replacement_therapy.aspx?PrinterFriendly=TRUE

The FDA does allow Pfizer to market CHANTIX®, although, I don’t think the FDA wants to be biased about this…some may disagree with me.

Again this is not the complete PDF from Pfizer…just some of the side effects. Here you can see the side effects of CHANTIX®. The information below is quoted unedited from the source.

Source: http://media.pfizer.com/files/products/mg_chantix.pdf

“Here are some of the side effects of CHANTIX®: What is the most important information I should know about CHANTIX?

Some people have had changes in behavior, hostility, agitation, depressed mood, and suicidal thoughts or actions while using CHANTIX to help them quit smoking. Some people had these symptoms when they began taking CHANTIX, and others developed them after several weeks of treatment or after stopping CHANTIX. If you, your family, or caregiver notice agitation, hostility, depression or changes in behavior or thinking that are not typical for you, or you develop any of the following symptoms, stop taking CHANTIX and call your healthcare provider right away:

• Thoughts about suicide or dying, or attempts to commit suicide

• New or worse depression, anxiety or panic attacks

• Feeling very agitated or restless

• Acting aggressive, being angry, or violent

• Acting on dangerous impulses

• An extreme increase in activity and talking (mania)

• Abnormal thoughts or sensations

• Seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations)

• Feeling people are against you (paranoia) • Feeling confused

• Other unusual changes in behavior or mood”

It kind of makes you wonder if the addiction is actually worse than the cure!

Just recently I received my electronic cigarette starter kit and I have to say it really delivers on its’ claims. I haven’t gotten off the analog cigs totally, but the esmokes are doing better than I expected. More on that in another post.

While nothing is perfect and this is not the ‘be all to end all’ it does go beyond the gum, patches and lozenges. Side effects are always present with about anything you care to scrutinize and that is true with the eSmokes.

Here are some of the side effects that have been reported in different locations on the internet:

One man has reported these Symptoms :

1. MUCH higher sex drive
2. Other half doesn’t read newspaper anymore – she rolls it into a baton!
3. Lack of sleep.

He says “I think these are linked”…don’t you just hate it for him!

Most people adjust to these side effects with in the first week of the symptoms.

  • Dry throat and sore throat are; easily remedied (honey lozenges,etc.).
  • Headaches or gas (tend to go away quickly).
  • Sinuses clearing up – Your sense of smell starts to come back, stuffiness goes away, etc. You start noticing the smell of other people’s smoke, or more subtle smells you’ve forgotten about as a smoker. But, on the downside, you start to smell the nastier stuff, too.
  • Smoker’s Morning Cough going away – Most people find that the first thing in the morning coughing goes away. I noticed this very quickly, not spewing my first sips of coffee either…downside I’m drinking more coffee.
  • Deeper, Clear Breathing – After a short time your body starts cleaning the toxins from your system and you begin to breathe deeper. You may actually get a little dizzy initially, as you begin taking in more oxygen. Most long time smokers actually breathe pretty shallow anyway, that’s probably what makes this change so dramatic.
  • Stinky Smoke Smell disappears – No more stale smoke smelling clothes, car, house or stinky ash trays to empty! Downside: When your sense of smell starts coming back, you may be prone to go on a massive cleaning spree! If you smoked in your house it won’t be long before you notice how bad it smells.

Electronic cigs are rapidly growing in popularity. However, I am not surprised because they are changing lives everywhere. Electric Cigs burst upon the scene late last year, and caught my interest immediately. The fact that you had more freedom to smoke where you want, anytime, anywhere definitely caught my interest. Upon further studies, I discovered many more benefits to switchng from traditional cigarettes to an Electric Cigarette.

First of all, there is not second hand smoke. Electric cig smokers no longer have to put their children and loved ones at risk from inhaling the dangerous toxins found in tobacco. This is because the electronic cig features a vaporizer and used a special electronic cig cartridge containing a liquid with only the nicotine instead of the other 1000s of poisons and toxins found in traditional tobacco cigarettes. Also, there is not the nasty smell and mess left behind from the ashes and tar contained in the tobacco. Another very important thing to note is that electronic cigs are much cheaper. Depeneding on the quanitity you buy, you can save up to 75%. Lord knows these days we can definitely use any saving that we can get our hands on.

Smokeless cigarettes have become one of the newest and exciting ways for a person to get their nicotine fix, especially in places where traditional cigarette smoking is prohibited. The creation of these cigarettes really comes in a time of need where many people are searching for ways to get nicotine, especially in places where a person may need to be for an extended period of time.

One thing that may be holding people back, besides their availability, is a question of operation. What are the components of these smokeless cigarettes? Basically, most cigarettes are broken down into three main pieces: the mouthpiece (or cartridge), the heating element (atomizer), and the battery.

The Composition

The cartridge is basically where the nicotine is held, fixated at the end of the tube, where the filter normally is. Undoubtedly, this is the most important part, as this is the reason why the smokeless cigarette was purchased in the first place. It works as a moistened flavored cup, holding the liquidized nicotine, eventually delivering nicotine into the system with the aid of the heating element.

Secondly, there is the heating element, which has the sole purpose of converting the liquid nicotine into a state where it can be inhaled. Lastly in the composition of the smokeless cigarette, there is the battery. Many of the offerings by the e-cigarette companies provide the consumer with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, powering the heating element. One of the best things about these batteries that there are many different ways to charge these batteries, even car chargers are available.

Refilling the Cartridges

One of the best things about the e-cigarettes is the fact that you can refill the cartridges. This is sure to save one a lot of additional money, on top of what they are already saving by choosing this method of nicotine consumption. Refilling these cartridges is not particularly hard, just a steady hand is necessary. After identifying the wick (the fluffy piece) inside of the empty cartridge, all one has to do is use the liquid dropper to apply a couple generous drops onto the wick.

After a few seconds, reassemble the cartridge onto the atomizer and enjoy! One of the more confusing things about re-applying eLiquid is probably the plastic guard, which in some cases it can be better to throw out. There can be confusion associated when trying to figure out how the device works. One of the signs that one should look for when they think that they need to refill their cartridge is the fact that it will no longer produce vapor, causing weaker inhalations of nicotine.

The smokeless cigarette is something that is mystifying at first, but really isn’t too hard to understand when investigating for oneself. Choosing this particular method to smoke is something that is beneficial in many different ways, including the fact that they are a lot healthier for a person than the regular cigarette, and they can really prove to be a lot lighter on the wallet. For those who are looking for an alternative way to achieve their nicotine fix, this is definitely an effective way!

However, along with this new market of products, comes the difficult choice of what product is the best. Read the Comparisons to determine your best bet!

Once you purchase your electronic cigarette you will want to use it as long as you can. Some people smoke more than others and that is why we cane out with the electronic cigarette USB charger. All you have to do is plug in the base electronic cigarette charger into your wall(the big black square module) and then plug in the little electronic cigarette USB module into the home charger. Once they are in place all you have to do is screw in the electronic cigarette battery into the USB port and a red light will come on to let you know the electronic cigarette battery is charging and when the light turns green the electronic cigarette battery is at full charge so that you can enjoy your electronic cigarette again.
